Bout of Books (10) Goals

http://boutofbooks.blogspot.com
I'm participating in the Bout of Books read-a-thon!

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 12th and runs through Sunday, May 18th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grandprize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 10 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. - From the Bout of Books team

I've been seeing this on a whole bunch of the blogs I follow and thought that I'd take part! After all, it's not like I have anything better to do than read all day erryday. I'm currently unemployed and I'm not in school for the summer, so I'm not doing a hell of a lot lately.

My goals:

1) Read for at least 2 hours a day. I'm hoping to read more than this, but this is NOT INCLUDING bedtime reading. I don't track how long I read before bed.

2) Read four books. I think I could probably handle more than that, but because this is my first read-a-thon I'm gonna set a reasonably low goal for myself.

3) Read at least two ARCs. I have a bad habit of requesting ARCs and then not reading them. I'm a little bit too click-happy on NetGalley and my review ratio is abysmal.

4) Comment on at least 10 blog posts per day. This is a lot for me. I'm not a naturally social person, though I desperately want to be. Commenting can be really tough for me!

5) Use my twitter account. I struggle with interacting with people on twitter. I struggle with merely posting on twitter on a regular basis. I'd like to branch out more and put myself out there. 90% of my twitter posts are just cross-posted Goodreads status updates.

6) Write reviews as I finish books. I tend to close one book only to delve right into another, without allowing myself any time to process the book I just finished. I want to start writing reviews shortly after finishing the book, when it's still fresh in my mind.

Are you participating in Bout of Books 10? Have you done it (or another read-a-thon) before? Any advice for a newbie like me?

  1. Wow, you have some great looking books! Good idea about staying on top of your reviews. I know how out of hand they can get. Best of luck!

    1. Thanks for commenting! I'm definitely looking forward to getting to this bunch. Thankfully I'm only one review behind at the moment, but I don't want to let it go farther than that.

I just checked what you're reading for Bout of Books - you've got a great stack there! I'm going to read Ruins pretty soon (hopefully) and I just read Dealing with Dragons two weeks ago. I hope you like The Shadow of Blackbirds & Black Heart as well, I thought they were pretty good.

  2. Hi Rose!

I totally know what you mean about requesting too many Netgalley titles! My review ratio is also absolutely terrible, and it's embarrassing. Actually, it stresses me out a lot! Haha. I also know what you mean about having a hard time commenting. I'm one of those people who, if they don't have anything to say to add to the conversation, they just don't talk. I lurk on so many blogs, but rarely comment. It's not a bad thing, but I would SO love to have lots of blogging friends like some bloggers out there! Hopefully we both get better at this. :) Twitter is awesome, and I'm following you now!

Looks like you have some awesome books here! The Winner's Curse is AMAZING! I hope you get to read it soon. I DNF'd The Raven Boys, but I am planning to go back to it. I've been wondering if I gave it a good enough chance.

Anyway, good luck! Hope you read TONS this week!

    1. Thanks for the the comment! When I say that my Netgalley review ratio is bad, I mean like 9% (yet I can't stop requesting more). Need to read those ARCs! Commenting is hard. I have to be in a certain mood to want to put the effort in, which a lot of the time I'm just not. I too am the kind of person who lives by the old "if you have nothing important to say, don't say anything" line. I'd love to have blogger friends, it looks like so much fun.

I've heard such good things about The Winner's Curse, hopefully I like it as much as everyone else!

    1. Thanks! Considering I've read 4 books this week without even really trying, I should be set for my goals! I'm very excited to get started
